It’s 2019, and with laptops adding more and more entertainment features these days, increasingly adopting the “suitable for work and play” idea, it’s not a strange thing to hear people ask if there’s any reason for DVDs. After all, even low end notebooks now have DVD drives. So why bother with the extra baggage? Why not just use a laptop?
Well, there are several reasons why you still need a good ol’ portable DVD player. While the notebooks may seem to have overwhelming advantages, you can’t exactly whip out PC at social gatherings, or use it on long car trips with the kids, airplane rides, etc.
Is the PC replacing DVD players? You can try, but you’ll never be able to. And we’ve got a few points to let you know why.
[/et_pb_text][/et_pb_column][/et_pb_row][/et_pb_section][et_pb_section fb_built=”1″ _builder_version=”3.21.4″ custom_padding=”3px|0px|54px|0px|false|false”][et_pb_row _builder_version=”3.21.4″][et_pb_column type=”1_3″ _builder_version=”3.21.4″][et_pb_blurb title=”Power” use_icon=”on” font_icon=”%%101%%” icon_color=”#8300E9″ _builder_version=”3.21.1″ header_font=”Poppins||||||||” header_text_align=”center” body_font=”Lato||||||||” body_text_align=”justify” background_color=”#EBEFF5″ custom_padding=”15px|20px|15px|20px”]We agree, laptop batteries have become better over the years. But when you consider how much power that your PC burns and the resulting effect on the overall battery life-span of your computer, you start to wonder if t’s worth the trouble. Then again, since most PCs have better displays, it means you’re burning a lot more power.
The average notebook consumes a whole lot of power from background processes even before you factor in DVD playback (especially higher resolutions). Your OS takes a huge amount of power to keep your system running, and so do your processors and several startup apps. Unless you own a high-end PC that cost you some serious cash, it’ll be a struggle to get the most out of your battery juice watching DVDs.
If you use your PC for other stuff asides watching films, then it’s only a matter of time that your laptop battery loses its overall charging capacity. Best case scenario: your full charge starts to last you for much less time than it used to after only 11 months; even less when you’re actively watching movies. Of course if you owned a dedicated portable player for DVD binge-watching, you’d be able to avoid all this.
[/et_pb_blurb][/et_pb_column][et_pb_column type=”1_3″ _builder_version=”3.21.4″][et_pb_blurb title=”Size” use_icon=”on” font_icon=”%%15%%” icon_color=”#8300E9″ _builder_version=”3.21.1″ header_font=”Poppins||||||||” header_text_align=”center” header_line_height=”1.3em” body_font=”Lato||||||||” body_text_align=”justify” background_color=”#EBEFF5″ custom_padding=”15px|20px|15px|20px” locked=”off”]Sure, notebooks have bigger screens, but is bigger always better? You might love how much those colors truly pop on your 15.6-inch PC, but that’s even more load when you have to carry it around. Newer models of super-slim notebooks are much lighter, but they also don’t have n-built DVD-ROM drives. Save yourself the burden
and buy a portable DVD player. They’re a lot smaller and far less weighty.
[/et_pb_blurb][/et_pb_column][et_pb_column type=”1_3″ _builder_version=”3.21.4″][et_pb_blurb title=”Cost” use_icon=”on” font_icon=”%%280%%” icon_color=”#8300E9″ _builder_version=”3.21.1″ header_font=”Poppins||||||||” header_text_align=”center” body_font=”Lato||||||||” body_text_align=”justify” background_color=”#EBEFF5″ custom_padding=”15px|20px|15px|20px” locked=”off”]In our previous two points, we considered scenarios for when you already have a PC. But supposing you don’t. What if you just want something to watch films with, but feel like you could just get a 2-in-one device. That’s fine if you have the money to splurge. But plot twist: lower end laptops usually don’t come with DVD-ROM ports.
And when they do (or if you find a way around it by attaching external DVD drives, which are clumsy by the way), these low cost PCs typically have poor displays and terrible battery lives. And for good reason, since they weren’t made for that purpose.
If you truly want to go portable with you DVD experience, you need a PC with some serious rep, and we’re talking super compact PCs with enough lightness and power to see you through. PCs like this would cost you in the region of a thousand dollars upwards. If you can only afford hundreds, get a low cost PC for far less, and a portable DVD player.
[/et_pb_blurb][/et_pb_column][/et_pb_row][et_pb_row _builder_version=”3.21.4″][et_pb_column type=”1_3″ _builder_version=”3.21.4″][et_pb_blurb title=”Connectivity” use_icon=”on” font_icon=”%%165%%” icon_color=”#8300E9″ _builder_version=”3.21.1″ header_font=”Poppins||||||||” header_text_align=”center” body_font=”Lato||||||||” body_text_align=”justify” background_color=”#EBEFF5″ custom_padding=”15px|20px|15px|20px”]Portable DVD players might be a little dated, but they’re made for one purpose: watching DVD videos. If you’ve got a decent portable DVD player, you’ve got all you need for that. Many low end and mid-range notebooks don’t have enough connectivity options. Many of the just have one earpiece jack and an external VGA
connector. Unlike cool portable DVD players which come with several ways to connect to TVs and stereo systems, as well as multiple headphone sockets so that additional people can enjoy their films anywhere they are.
Things to Consider When Buying a Portable DVD Player
So, now that we’ve succeeded in convincing you to buy a portable DVD player, let’s let you know about the things you should keep an eye out for when getting one – or even two.
[/et_pb_text][/et_pb_column][/et_pb_row][et_pb_row _builder_version=”3.21.4″ locked=”off”][et_pb_column type=”1_3″ _builder_version=”3.21.4″][et_pb_blurb title=”Power” use_icon=”on” font_icon=”%%101%%” icon_color=”#8300E9″ _builder_version=”3.21.1″ header_font=”Poppins||||||||” header_text_align=”center” body_font=”Lato||||||||” body_text_align=”justify” background_color=”#EBEFF5″ custom_padding=”15px|20px|15px|20px”]We first talked about power. Which is reasonable since the major reason for being portable is so that the said DVD players can be played on the move. This is why you need to know how long your battery will be able to power your device. You don’t want to be interrupted just when the action is about to peak. If you like to travel a lot
in your car and you want to keep the kids busy, you need to get a portable DVD player with a car adapter.
It should depend on what you want to use your portable DVD player for and how much you use it but ideally, you should be able to watch your films for about 4-5 hours before you get the power off message.
The Dr. J professional portable DVD player is powered by a 2,500 mAh high-capacity rechargeable lithium battery, allowing you extend the playing time of your favorite movies up to 5 hours. That’s the length of two feature movies: a lot of time to re-watch extended versions of your favorite fantasy films. In addition to included 5.9 ft. car and AC adapter, rest assured, you can enjoy your private theater anytime and anywhere.
[/et_pb_blurb][/et_pb_column][et_pb_column type=”1_3″ _builder_version=”3.21.4″][et_pb_blurb title=”Flexibility” use_icon=”on” font_icon=”%%15%%” icon_color=”#8300E9″ _builder_version=”3.21.1″ header_font=”Poppins||||||||” header_text_align=”center” header_line_height=”1.3em” body_font=”Lato||||||||” body_text_align=”justify” background_color=”#EBEFF5″ custom_padding=”15px|20px|15px|20px” locked=”off”]Take a moment to think about how you intend to use your portable DVD player. If you’d like a device you can carry along with when traveling or the kind that you can install in your car, then you should go for feature that the DVD player supports.

[/et_pb_blurb][/et_pb_column][et_pb_column type=”1_3″ _builder_version=”3.21.4″][et_pb_blurb title=”Connectivity and Support” use_icon=”on” font_icon=”%%41%%” icon_color=”#8300E9″ _builder_version=”3.21.1″ header_font=”Poppins||||||||” header_text_align=”center” body_font=”Lato||||||||” body_text_align=”justify” background_color=”#EBEFF5″ custom_padding=”15px|20px|15px|20px” locked=”off”]A lot of portable DVD players nowadays only play MP4. Do you really want to be stuck with such limited options when you can get something that plays VCDs as well as MP3s? Newer models also come with features such as USB ports in case you want to connect your MP3 player to your iPod. The Dr. J has a wide range of
compatibility with multimedia. It supports direct play of various discs including CD, DVD, CD-R/RW, DVD -R/+R, DVD+RW/-RW, VCD to SVCD. You can also use USB and SD cards (max capacity of 32G) to play your songs (MP3/WMA/WAV), and view our photos (in JPEG, MPEG2/AVI/DIVX formats).
You also get several ports for multiple applications. Portable DVD player to another DVD player of the same type so that you can share what you are watching on another screen. On the flip side, plug in your headphone into the audio jack to enhance your private audio-visual experience.
[/et_pb_blurb][/et_pb_column][/et_pb_row][et_pb_row _builder_version=”3.21.4″ locked=”off”][et_pb_column type=”1_3″ _builder_version=”3.21.4″][et_pb_blurb title=”Size” use_icon=”on” font_icon=”%%15%%” icon_color=”#8300E9″ _builder_version=”3.21.1″ header_font=”Poppins||||||||” header_text_align=”center” body_font=”Lato||||||||” body_text_align=”justify” background_color=”#EBEFF5″ custom_padding=”15px|20px|15px|20px”]When getting a portable DVD player, you want something that is not too small and not too big. Too small means you won’t be able to enjoy your videos as you will struggle to see the display clearly. Too big means too heavy most times. You have to strike a balance. At 10.1inches, the DR. J strikes the perfect balance between ease of
carriage and adequate display real estate.
[/et_pb_blurb][/et_pb_column][et_pb_column type=”1_3″ _builder_version=”3.21.4″][et_pb_blurb title=”Memory Function” use_icon=”on” font_icon=”%%130%%” icon_color=”#8300E9″ _builder_version=”3.21.1″ header_font=”Poppins||||||||” header_text_align=”center” header_line_height=”1.3em” body_font=”Lato||||||||” body_text_align=”justify” background_color=”#EBEFF5″ custom_padding=”15px|20px|15px|20px” locked=”off”]Many portable DVDs don’t have the memory function, and so you have to keep fast-forwarding to get to the point you stopped the previous time. But with the Dr. J, you can pick up from you left off without taking the trouble to keep skipping or fast-forwarding. [/et_pb_blurb][/et_pb_column][et_pb_column type=”1_3″ _builder_version=”3.21.4″][et_pb_blurb title=”Adjustable Settings” use_icon=”on” font_icon=”%%16%%” icon_color=”#8300E9″ _builder_version=”3.21.1″ header_font=”Poppins||||||||” header_text_align=”center” body_font=”Lato||||||||” body_text_align=”justify” background_color=”#EBEFF5″ custom_padding=”15px|20px|15px|20px” locked=”off”]Color saturation on the Dr. J is flawless. You get even better viewing experience than you would on other devices. The Dr. J is customized with a 1024×600 bright TFT screen that renders images vividly and displays pictures naturally with enhanced color saturation. You also get to have control over the contrast values and brightness,
